How To Childproof Your Firearm

A responsible handgun owner needs to know all of important safety rules that need to be followed. One of the first things that you should do when bringing home your firearm is to childproof it. This should be done even if you do not have children.

- When you put away your firearm make sure that it is unloaded
- Turn the safety on the firearm on and place it in a locked container.
- Keep the ammunition in a locked container and place it separate from the firearm.
- Make sure that the container your firearm is stored in is not visible and cannot be accessed easily.
- Do not place it in bedside table, on a shelf in your closet, or underneath your mattress.
- Do not put your firearm with other things that you own like jewelry.
- If your firearm is not used for self-defense than place it in a stored container outside of the home.
